Happy New Life!

It's a new year! And while that usually means dusting off old resolutions and spinning them around for 3 weeks, what if we took a different perspective on the commitment we'd like to make at this time of year? What if this period of reflection and optimism about the fresh start of a new year is actually the fresh start of a new life? If today is the day of your new life, and the old you is being replaced and transformed into the new you, and you're in the Transformation Shop telling the Transformation Specialist all the things that you'd like included, tweaked and removed in your upgraded version of yourself and your life... what would you ask for?
There was a scene in the movie The Matrix, when Cypher is agreeing to the betrayal of the team to Agent Smith over a juicy steak dinner. It's then that he dictates how he would like to experience his new life, "And I want to be rich. Someone important. Like an actor. You can do that, right?"
You can do that. Only the Matrix-like technology of instant digital results hasn't quite been invented yet, so we're still having to use the manual, analog version of changing our lives. It works too, not flawlessly, but it works. It just takes longer.
Let's say it takes a year. This year. What are you going to do this year to set up the rest of your life?
What are you going to request gets improved, specifically? I might look at developing areas of:
- My thinking
- My health
- My relationships
- My knowledge
- My finances
- My work
- My faith
- My fun
Remember, because it's manual, it going to take a bit of elbow grease. You're gonna need to do the work, but you can do it in small, repeated, persistent, incremental steps. Daily.
Here's an action you can take right now, should you choose to:
Grab a new journal, and on the first page write down all 8 of the above areas of development, leaving enough space in between each area to list three specific actions that you can practice to develop each area. Your goal for the next 60 days could be to turn the best of these into habits by practicing them daily and rewarding yourself for your improvement.
