Easy offset meat and dairy

Image
How to carbon offset the environmental impact of your meat and dairy consumption It seems beef is getting a bad rap when it comes to the environment. I like beef. And meat in general. And dairy. So I thought I’d figure out how to offset this impact. This article is not about the morals of a carnivorous diet. It’s about offsetting whatever your meat and dairy diet levels might be. Let’s start with cow research. The big deal with cows is that they produce a lot of methane from burping, flatulence and decomposition of excrement and post-slaughter waste. Methane is worse than CO2, but we use CO2 as our climate benchmark currency so we’ll convert all nasties into CO2 so we’re not comparing apples with steaks. And since beef is widely regarded as the worst environmental disasterfier, once we work out how evil it is and offset it, then if we use the same offset calculation for all other meats they’d be more than covered and we’re doing extra good too. Everybody’s happy. Unless you’re a meat. ...

Why you decide to do, but you don't follow through.

Image
No follow through - by Tim Wade In March 2018 I received confirmation that I would be delivering nine unique keynotes on a cruise ship in October that year. One of the topics was titled Get Healthier Finally and I figured I had 6 months to shape up before having to deliver that one. Excellent. Six months for me to get healthier finally. That's doable. Except I didn't follow through. Tell the truth Are there some decisions you've made that were awesome decisions, but then you never took any action? I'll tell you the truth: for me there have been a lot. It's almost as if I know what to do, I decide to do it, I might even want to do it, but I don't do it. And it drives me crazy. And it probably drives others crazy too. I'm not exclusively like that. Sometimes I make decisions bordering on impulsive, act immediately, boom: result. My recent trek to Everest is an example of that. (There are pros and cons with that approach as well. Sometimes that sort ...

The power of Fun in getting more done

Image
I'm a big believer in rewarding your own effort. And today, after I dropped Zoe off at school, I'm here in a coffee shop by the beach. But my reward is - and I'm on a health and fitness kick - a giant breakfast. Full video of this post is at the bottom of the page! The reason why I'm finally on a health kick now is that I put a giant end goal in the middle of October: I'm doing a health talk about how to get fit and healthy on a cruise ship. Not how to get fit and healthy on a cruise ship, but the talk is on a cruise ship, and it's about how to get fit and healthy. So I figure it's probably a good idea that I'm reasonably fit and healthy by the time I get to the cruise ship or else it's going to look incongruous and idiotic. And I'm going to be pretty embarrassed. YOUR REWARDS So: Mindset of Victory. Victory has rewards. Breakfast: protein reward. There's a gym in my condo so I could just go down to the gym and ...

Starting your New Year's Resolutions today = 526% more success

Image
Starting your New Year's Resolutions today = 526% more success. If you start your New Year's Resolutions today, you will be 526% more likely to succeed at them. When you start your New Year's Resolutions today, rather than wait until New Year's Day, you're 526% more likely to succeed at achieving those resolutions. Because you're 5 times more likely to be committed to delivering the OUTCOME rather than just the annual intention if you start in December. Okay, here's the breakdown: 100% -- Because 1st Jan is when you're supposed to declare rather than actually do anything. That's why most resolutions are abandoned or forgotten by 17 Jan. Because the goal is to declare rather than do. And as soon as we go back to work we forget about the new and get back into the old. 200% -- Because the new you starts today, not some other day, and you want to start the new year already running, not fluffing around looking for your brand new gym shoes...

What's your purpose for doing what you're doing?

I was listening to some insights from Derek Sivers (sivers.org), the guy who created CD Baby, sold it for $22 million and rolled all of that into a fund that would support education for musicians after he died. Cool. He asked, why do you do what you do, and then suggested to pick from one of these 5 reasons: 1. Money 2. Prestige 3. Fame 4. Legacy 5. Freedom And he says choosing any is okay, just be true to yourself and then optimise your career for that: focus on that, make that your measure. But it may mean NOT focussing on getting the others too, but some of them might come as a by-product. So, for example, if you choose to go for Money, then you might let someone else take the spotlight (Fame) while you focus on the money. Like being the movie producer instead of the star actor. If you want prestige, then focus on the circles that you wish to be acknowledged for and give up some of the other stuff. If you want the limelight, be everywhere. If you want legacy, put...

3 Tips to Stop being your own Bottleneck

Image
When did you realise that you're the bottleneck to your own progress? For me, it was when I realised I was buying lots of apps, software and courses to help me progress, but I wasn’t using them. I’d start using them, then ... I’d stop. I knew I needed to write more, create more, produce more, but I wasn’t doing it. And it frustrated me. Notice that your procrastination makes you frustrated You know how you just get busy? You just have to do that other thing. And it's an important other thing. It might be a business thing, a proposal, a team meeting, a review of some of your team’s work so they can move on. You don't want to be the bottleneck.  Who is your bottleneck? For the value I needed to create, I noticed that my bottleneck was me. And when I realised it, it frustrated me. Sometimes it's a simmering frustration, and sometimes the odd burst of anger comes out at something like a spilt coffee. And I have realised that most of the time, I'm ann...

Your best, most positive and accurate New Year forecast!

Image
This is your best, most positive and accurate New Year forecast... Because I'm fascinated about people's desire to read a forecast of their fortunes for the new year, I thought I'd write one, an awesome one. A strologers publish calendar year or lunar new year horoscopes all over the world, but what if it contains bad news? (The one I wrote for you doesn't: it's awesome.) D uring Chinese New Year there is enormous interest in how the coming year will pan out. In Singapore for example, huge boards go up in public areas during Chinese New Year and crowds gather to read forecasts of their health, happiness, relationships and wealth prospects for the year ahead. Now while I don't believe in any of that stuff, I do know that our expectations of the future will influence our mindset and the degrees to which we take action. So our expectations of the future can often create that future. Then surely it's a good idea to lock on to a version of the new year that ...
