The Duck and Spectacle - choose to make brave choices

Life is made up of choices. We choose to do things every day. And what we choose to do, when we choose to do it, and how we choose to do it tends to craft the quality of our life. That quality might be swiss-watch-like quality, or it might be two-dollar store quality. It all depends on our choices and how we respond to the consequences of those choices.

Consider the Duck and the Spectacle.

A duck is a funny, cute, awkward and awesome creature that seems to add value in everything it does and is. A duck is also an action you take to get out of the way of something hurtling towards you.

So maybe it's time to get out of our own way.

A duck is also one of very few creatures that can swim, walk and fly. It can live happily on the water, on the land and in the air.

Maybe it's time to recognise that our funny awkwardness has an awesome uniqueness that makes us, in this life, truly special.

A spectacle is both something amazing to see and something to see amazingly through.

If our lives are to be amazing, we need to make brave choices.

If what we see in the world is to be amazing, we need to be conscious of how our perspective is framed by our past, by our biases, and by the algorithms of this tech world.

Let's choose to avoid a future that is exactly the same as today, with nothing changing except becoming older. Let's avoid that.

Let's ensure that the future versions of you and me are even more awesome than we already are. And that we're doing and experiencing even cooler things; a higher quality of life.

A better you, a better me.

To do that, we'll need to open up and see the lessons of this life, what the world has been trying to teach us, and perhaps a greater truth to why we're really here. But then we need to apply the lessons, not just know them.

May we not have to duck so much, but when we do we learn and grow.

May we enjoy the spectacle, with a sense of humour, kindness towards others, and not make too much of a spectacle of ourselves along the way - unless it's all in good fun - and may we live a spectacular life.

And to start to do that, all we need to do is think...

... and start.
